Sudan’s Al-Burhan Says War Will Continue Until Rapid Support Forces Are Disarmed

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, emphasized that Khartoum will not agree to any ceasefire unless the Rapid Support Forces disarm and withdraw from all regions of the country.
According to Al Jazeera, al-Burhan stated that Sudan’s armed forces, relying on domestic capabilities, will continue fighting what he described as “rebels,” and the army only believes in Sudanese-to-Sudanese dialogue. He declared that the war will persist until the complete disarmament of these forces is achieved.
The chairman of the Sovereign Council added that the government had previously agreed to the conditions proposed in the Jeddah negotiations, but the Rapid Support Forces, instead of adhering to the agreements, chose war.
The conflict between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces began in April 2023; the clashes focus on integrating these forces into the army structure and have so far resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced over 13 million people across Sudan.
